PLUS SIZE BODY CONFIDENCE – Why wouldn’t we have it?

Why hello there!

It’s been quite some time since I’ve blogged, over a year to be exact. Not sure how life got in the way but a new job and commuting seems to take up most of the time now days. Regardless, I know I need to get back into blogging as it de-clutters my mind and is truly a relaxing mechanism for me. Which means, I was finally able to make some time and write about something that I’ve been thinking about lately:

PLUS SIZE BODY CONFIDENCE – Why wouldn’t we have it?

Now plus size fashion ain’t easy. We have it all, from frumpy jersey material tops to jeans that have thick material and are super uncomfortable to wear. When I shop for my body size, I spend a lot of time and effort to find items that can be sustainable (long term), are trendy, fashionable and of course, comfortable. Then, whenever I have a chance I take some “ootd’s” and post them on Instagram.

A lot of the comments I find on my feed are from acquaintances or followers who I do not know personally, who say things like: “That’s one thing I love about you, your confidence”, OR “you radiate so much confidence”. Now don’t get it twisted, I personally don’t mind this comment. However if I were to think deeper into it, I wonder:  Can a plus size/curvy/bigger girl not be confident in her own skin? Just because I am bigger, does that mean I can’t be happy in my own body or wear trendy clothes just like the average girl?

Now, believe me when I say, I know that the intent behind this statement is probably good. I don’t think anyone would say that to be mean… or maybe they would Lol. Of course this comment can even derive from the person self-reflecting and wishing confidence upon themselves when they make statements like this but really, who knows.

Regardless, to everyone who thinks big girls can’t be confident, please know this:

Not every plus size girl is uncomfortable in their own skin – in fact for me, I have grown to love who I’ve become. I wasn’t always a bigger girl but my weight has fluctuated in the past few years due to many factors such as Thyroid issues, Cancer and of course that I am a foodie at heart. Regardless, I have learned to love and accept myself and therefore, I radiate confidence in how I present myself, walk, talk and speak to others.

I absolutely LOVE the challenge of dressing trendy using the limited resources I have. Of course I have my days of “I wish my chest was smaller” or “I wish I had a more structured jaw line” but doesn’t everyone? Regardless, why wouldn’t a bigger person be comfortable in their own skin? You don’t have to be the stereotypical norm to be feel good about yourself. If you think that case, girl you are highly mistaken – live a little.

Anyone can be confident in their own skin, you just have to learn to love and accept yourself.

Just some food for thought.

Snap Chat – The highs and lows

Random right? Not beauty or fashion related but it seems to be an app that most of us use every single day, throughout the day so I thought, why the hell not.

Ohh Snap Chat – I love it but sometimes… no! I will not start this blog post off on a negative note so let’s start off with the positives!

Positives

1.  Staying in touch – Snap Chat is an easy way to see what your friends/family are up to without having to write much. Visuals are always my fave and without having to make meaningless conversation, you can get straight to the point with just a picture of what you’re up to/what you’re about to eat/where you’re travelling etc.

2. My Story – At first, I hardly used this tool of snap chat but when I started I realized it’s a great way to share certain things: recipes, DIY’s and even beauty looks. I’ve had a lot of people reach out to me telling me they’ve enjoyed my snap chat stories, whether it’s been recipes or me getting ready for a wedding! My snap chat story is also fun to look over at the end of the night (for me) – to see what I did, how many views, who’s been looking etc.

3. Knowing people on a different level – Ugly face competition? Pretty sure I win each and every time. No but seriously, some people put on a front and don’t share a lot on social media (which is totally fine) – but having snap chat lets you know someone on a totally different level, a more comfortable level and I laaaaaaike that!

4. (Insert city here) Life – I LOVE THIS. It really helps people understand other cultures and see other parts of the world in a different light. There is nothing negative about this, it’s actually pretty awesome.

Negatives

(Oh man here we go)

1. SELFIE VIDEOS – I literally cannot deal. I hate this so much. There are a lot of people that send me videos of them posing and making a duck face – not a selfie though, a VIDEO. WHY?! Lord. I get it, YOU LOOK GREAT, so fabulous but does someone really need to watch a video of you posing :S  This is not cool, and you need to stop.

2. STORIES – Those who send me the snaps that their adding to their story anyway… Why do you do this?! I’m probably going to look through the recent stories and see it anyway so what was the point of sending it to me (and others) separately? THERE WAS NO POINT. Side note: It’s also really irritating getting snaps of things that are irrelevant to me. I don’t need snaps of you hanging out with your friends that I do not know. That is just weird.

3. BLOGGERS/YOUTUBERS – Following SOME of my favorite bloggers/youtubers has unfortunately made me shy away from reading their posts/watching their videos. Some of them, I think, share another side of themselves which leads me to feel that they are annoying. I don’t want to get into specifics and/or talk shit buttttttt, I’ve stopped adding my favorite “celebrities” to snap chat because when I see a whole new side of them, it’s not necessarily true that I’ll like it. Disclaimer: not all of them are annoying but majority of them are.

4. Constantly SnapChatting – These are the folks that literally snap chat EVERYTHING. Oh, there’s a burger – PHONES OUT, oh someone is opening a present – PHONES OUT… WHY!? You don’t need to snap chat every moment of your life, just enjoy it and take the moment in. You won’t even remember half these memories because you’re too busy snapping them away.

Anyway, that’s my raw version of why I love and hate snap chat at the same time. Didn’t even bother editing it through to make sure no one gets offended becaaaause this is truly how I feel, and I’m sure others feel this way too J

Happy Wednesday (THE WEEK IS ALMOST OVER!!)

Mother’s Day Tea Party | Feat. A yummy spread & recipes!

11010549_10152701026671626_5288870013693319211_n

Hi loves!

I realized, that I never made a blog post about our Mothers Day celebration we had at my home (but it’s better late then never right?). I invited my mom and dad over for Mothers Day and I knew I wanted to do something different then the typical ‘bengali styled lunch’ which usually includes, biryani, a cucumber salad, some raita and another dish consisting of veggies or meat. I wanted to do something different, that I know she would appreciate.. so I whipped together a really cute Indigo/Kate Spade/Stephanie Sterjovski inspired tea party.

The spread included, delicate cucumber sandwiches, a cantaloupe boat with fresh black berries and mint, mini quiches, samosa’s, veggie pin wheels, a special blueberry & watermelon juice and of course, tea! You wont believe how simple each of the dishes were to make and you’ll find that the common ingredients are: cream cheese, dill, mint and fruit. What I like about this spread was that I was able to do use one ingredient on a couple different items which made my life and grocery list inexpensive and easy.

For the recipes of each dish, please see below 🙂

Recipes:

Cucumber Sandwiches:
1. White bread
2. Cream Cheese (softened)
3. Dill
4. Cucumbers
5. Salt & Pepper

Cucumber sandwiches are super easy, tasty and delicate. All you do is spread cream cheese (make sure its softened!) on both slices of bread. Sprinkle each side with some fresh dill, salt and pepper. After slicing some thin cucumbers (and letting them soak out their water on a kitchen paper towel), neatly distribute them on one slice of the bread. Put both sides together and cut off the crust using a serrated knife. (These sandwiches were a huge hit, especially with my dad! lol)

Cantaloupe Boat:
1. Cantaloupe
2. Berries of your choice (I used blackberries)
3. Mint
4. Icing sugar or regular sugar

This is a super easy dish and only takes a few minutes to make. I made it the night before and just refrigerated it over night. First, cut your cantaloupe into slices and present them on a platter. Grab some berries of your choice and place them nicely around and in between the cantaloupe. Next, slice up some fresh mint from your garden and sprinkle over top. Lastly (and you want to do this moments before you serve the item) – dust over some icing sugar which will give your fruit platter a beautiful touch. I unfortunately did this the night before, and my icing sugar dissolved.

11013097_10152701027136626_4903061290191365218_n

Mini Quiches:
1. Phyllo Dough (1 box)
2. 12 Eggs (Feel free to use less)
3. A dash of heavy cream
4. Mozzarella Cheese
5. Chives
6. Sour cream
7. Lemon Zest
8. Dill

They sound fancy, but trust me it was the EASIEST dish to make (also made the night before). In a bowl, mix together your eggs, heavy cream and salt and pepper – whip it up and leave it aside for a moment. Using a cupcake tray, line your THAWED phyllo dough and make little cups. Fill the bottom of each cup with a sprinkle of mozzarella cheese and then transfer your egg mixture into each cup, sprinkling a handful of chives on top. Now bake at 375 for about 15 minutes or until the eggs are golden brown and puffed up. While this is cooling, in another bowl whisk together about a cup of sour cream, the zest of one lemon and a handful of dill. Once your eggs are out of the oven and have cooled, apply a doll up of the sour cream mixture on top and garnish with some fresh dill. VOILA!

Pin Wheels:
1. Colorful tortilla bread
2. Softened Cream Cheese
3. A variety of veggies (I used red/green/yellow peppers and onions)
4. Salt & Pepper

Spread softened cream cheese on your tortilla bread. Sprinkle your favorite veggies on top and add salt and pepper. Roll very tightly and cover with aluminum foil (or you can cut it into pieces and serve right away). I covered it with the foil, put it in the fridge and cut it into bite size pieces in the morning.

As for the samosa’s, they were bought but absolutely delicious and added that bengali touch to the tea party. Additionally, I just grabbed some blueberry watermelon fruitopia and added frozen fruits and lots of ice for a cool, cold drink. I hope you guys enjoyed the recipes and pictures!

Eid Inspired Makeup Tutorial | Featuring Dalphies

IMG_8139

Hi loves!

Recently, I’ve partnered up with the owner of http://www.dalphies.com to present to you guys, this Eid inspired makeup look. Who is Dalphies might you ask? Well, they are an e-commerce website that specializes in unique and trendy collections consisting of south asian attire and jewellery! The owner of Dalphies was nice enough to send me some beautiful pieces to use in my looks, from matha pathi’s to tikka’s – so pretty, unique and perfect for those glammed out looks I love to do. Another great factor about the jewellery was that they were light and not pulling down on my ears (like other heavy south asian pieces -__- lol).

Now don’t get me wrong, this look doesn’t just have to be worn on Eid, you can definitely use it in your summer bollywood weddings or typical summer late night dawats. If you think the lashes are too much, feel free to use a different pair or just wear your own natural lashes with a touch of mascara. Thanks to tape, this look ended up being so neat and clean – definitley give it a try!

Jaclyn Hill Favorites | Morphe Brushes

tumblr_nhb46v2Y2y1qi5p7no1_500

Amongst the very few YouTubers I follow religiously, Jaclyn Hill has come out with an eyeshadow palette of her own collaborating with Morphe Cosmetics. Now if this isn’t motivating, I don’t know what is. The colors on her palette are not only colors that she uses in her looks but are completely wearable warm colors that anyone can incorporate into their makeup routine on a daily basis.

Like seriously, I use those brown tones every single day on my crease. Now each of these eyeshadows individually sell for $2.29 on www.morphebrushes.com. However, if you were able to snatch a JH palette before it got sold out (literally within 24 hours) you are one of the lucky ones to own all of her favorite shades.

I don’t think that this palette will be re sold but if it does one day, you need to get your hands on it! I’ve uploaded a picture below with the titles of each color. Specifically, these are some of my daily favorites.. Can you tell I like warm colors?!

ES14
ES15
ES71
ES59

All in all, the palette is pretty awesome. The colors are great, the packaging is chic and Jaclyn Hill is amazing so I expect nothing less. Also, her latest product, Champagne Pop | A highlighter (and also a collaboration with Becca) is already online but will be in Sephora stores July 16th. I’M SO EXCITED!

To check out my makeup tutorial using the palette, see here:

Strobing is the new contouring?

Edited3

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC8Rp-K_4rE0DbkEyCh-xluQ

Is it though?

Isn’t strobing just a technique we all use when we’re lazy in the mornings?

If you have been on social media for the past 2 weeks, you’ll know that strobing is all the rage right now. Strobing (aka highlighting) focuses exclusively on just highlighter and illuminators as oppose to contouring that helps you define and structure your face using darker shades. Strobing focuses exactly on where the light would hit your face – in this case, it can be the highest points of your cheekbones, your nose, your temples, your cupid’s bow and even your collar bones. Although this look makes one look more angelic, radiating and glowy, I still do prefer contouring (even with the summer heat, when I have time of course).

Regardless, I had to make a video to show my subscribers what strobing is and how you can achieve it. Please see above for the video and below for a product list of what I have used.

Product List:

– True Match Concealer and Illuminator
– Nars, Copacabana Illuminator
– NYX, Illuminator in Gleam
– Becca Highlighter in Opal
– Bobbi Brown, Illuminating Treatment Foundation
– Mac, Mineralize Skin Finish

How to: Contour, Highlight & Conceal | Kat Von D: Shade Light Palette

Hey hey heeyyy,

Since about last year, the hype of contouring has gone up a few million notches! Although the concept has been used for many years by professional makeup artists, many cosmetic brands have been making contour kits as apart of their branding technique. We started with Anastasia, then we had Makeup Forever (and many others in between) and now we have Kat Von D’s, Shade Light Palette.

Each contour kit has about 6 shades, some have 2-4. There are lighter shades to emphasis the highlighted areas and carve out your contour and there are darker shades to create the illusion of a slimmer face, cheekbones, and even creating abs or cleavage.

In today’s video, I’ve used the Shade Light Palette by Kat Von D to emphasize and carve out my features. For a list of the products, see below:

1. Bobbi Brown – Illuminating Treatment Foundation

2. Nars – Radiant Concealer in Vanilla

3. Kat Von D – The Shade Light Palette

4. Nars – Translucent Powder

5. Banana Powder

6. Nars – Albatross Highlighter

Remember to use a sponge or a beauty blender to blend everything together, if you do not have either, try a stippling brush and very lightly blend everything together in circular motions.

I hope this helped everyone who needs help with contouring!
Thanks for stopping by and please subscribe to my channel if you like what you see.
