DIY: Glitter Mason Jars

Hi friends!

Last weekend I decided to make a trip to Michaels and get started on some glitter mason jars (inspired by Pinterest of course). I’ve had this post under my “DIY” section on Pinterest foooreverrrr but never got to it until now! Below you will find a step by step process about how I decorated my mason jars and a vase. Lets get started!

You will need:

1. Mason Jars/Vase
2. Paint & Glitter Paint (I bought the Martha Stewart brand but feel free to buy another brand thats cheaper, they really are all the same)
3. Paint Brushes
4. Tape
5. A Shoe Box
6. Loose Glitter
7. Mod Podge

Step 1: Paint your mason jar/vase. For both my blush pink and gold mason jars, I had to use 3 coats.

Step 2. Once the jars dry completely, you can tape around your jar. Cut off however much you want for the glitter section. Tape allows you to have a completely straight line and it makes the division look neat! Next grab your Modge Podge and brush the part you would like to add your glitter on to.

Step 3. Throw in your glitter to a shoe box (so you don’t make a mess). Then, roll your mason jar or vase into the glitter and make sure it evenly coats.

Step 4. Let the Modge Podge/Glitter dry for about 10 minutes (or until completely dry) and then slowly peel off your tape! Use Modge Podge over the glitter to completely seal it in, this prevents the glitter from falling excessively.

Step 5.  I also used another mason jar and painted it a shimmery gold using Martha Stewart’s paint. Once it was completely dry, I used hot pink paint to make dots all over the jar. I used the tip of a brush to dip into the paint and make the dots.

… and thats it! The process was super easy and fast. The gold paint was not exactly what I was expecting but I had fun doing it anyway. Next time, I plan to use actual loose gold glitter and then paint hot pink dots all over the jar. I feel like that might fit more so to that ‘Kate Spade’ theme I was going for. Next time, I also plan to use one more coat of the blush pink paint. You can use these jars for ANYTHING, whether its make up brushes, fresh flowers or even pens and pencils.

I made a flower vase as well and stuck in some fresh pink tulips to welcome Spring (although I feel like we just received Winter once again!). This one was truly my favourite one, it’s the perfect touch to our home.

Try this DIY and let me know what you came up with!! Painting mason jars is actually pretty fun and relaxing!
