I struggled with the idea of making this video and blog for a while… it went from a body image, confidence & fashion blog to finally a “how to dress for your body shape” blog. The reason for my struggle was because I felt that the topic of body image was quite controversial, and I didn’t want to deal with the abundant amount of hate comments and negative criticism we all know there can be from a video like this.
A few months ago, I gathered a couple of my friends and I asked them what they feel comfortable wearing. Once I heard the answers, I collaborated my inspiration from Pinterest and various magazines and came up with looks that I thought best suited my friends and I, while still incorporating clothing articles that they are most comfortable in. So after all these weeks of photography, editing, and scheduling, I present you my personal take on fashionable looks, titled *insert drumroll * “how to dress for your body shape.” We decided to keep the looks very casual dressy and portray how each look emphasizes our beautiful bodies. Hopefully, you are able to relate to at least one of our body shapes and try some of these looks on your own!
First, we have my beautiful friend Fatma who we consider to be the average body type. Fatma is a very classy and trendy girl who likes to keep it modest. You think it’s hard? Not at all. Fatma is wearing a dark denim button up shirt tucked into a black midi skirt with white shoes for a pop of colour. She’s accessorized her looks by wearing a beautiful silver necklace, a gold Michael Kors watch, and a nude Kate Spade purse. Fatma is dressing for her body type and showing off her toned figure by tucking in her denim shirt and wearing a very trendy skirt that adds a big of pizzazz to her shape. By wearing a midi skirt, which is tight at the waist but loose at the hips, Fatma is focusing attention away from being drawn to her lower half. She also elongates her legs by wearing a pair of beautiful white heels to finish off this trendy autumn outfit.

Secondly, we have curvaceous Shumaina! Shumaina has narrow-set hips, and a booty, so we wanted to pair her in pants that would bring attention to all the right places! #babygotback Shumaina is wearing medium-dark washed jeans with a navy blue blouse tucked in. She has paired this look with a brown belt, a pair of cool oxford’s and a beautiful red blazer for that pop of colour that everyone wants this fall season. Here, Shumaina has defined her body shape beautifully by tucking her blouse into her jeans and wearing a belt. By tucking in her blouse and not leaving it hanging, Shumaina is elongating her legs and accentuating her waistline. Because Shumaina wants to highlight her smaller waist and legs and take focus away from her behind, she’s chosen a longer blazer that not only highlights her best assets, but also allows her to feel comfortable! As a final touch, let’s focus on Shumain’s choice of colours for a second: dark. Don’t get me wrong, I love my pastels, but let’s be serious here ladies, some truths are universal: darker will always make everyone look slimmer!

Lastly, we have me! I’m considered to be a “plus size” girl, and because of that, I feel most comfortable in dresses that accentuate, but also minimize my “problem areas” like every girl! The biggest part of my body is my hips, which means that baby doll or pleated dresses are definitely the most flattering for my body shape. In this look, I am wearing a cream colored pleated dress, paired with a faux fur vest, black panty hose and kitten heels for comfort. Wearing a dress with this height and pairing it with these heels allows me to look taller and my legs to look leaner. Lastly, as a side note, pairing this dress with a faux fur vest is perfect for that autumn look as it adds warmth and a touch of glam to my look!
