Tutu Skirts & High Tea

Tutu skirts and high tea? Absolutely.

It was a cloudy day when a few of my girlfriends and I decided to go for High Tea at the Windsor Arms in the Yorkville area of Toronto, we celebrated my 25th birthday. It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon where we updated one another on our lives and enjoyed various types of tea’s, warm raisin scones and gourmet mini sandwiches.

A fun day like this also meant planning for an extraordinary outfit. Being curvy and (I hate this word…) plus size, it’s definitely not easy finding a fabulous outfit on such short notice. With some thought and inspiration from Carrie Bradshaw and Kate Spade, I decided to design my own midi tutu skirt and have my sister in law sew it for me. We bought some lining and blush pink tulle and with a few alterations – VOILA! I was originally going to wear my midi tutu with a light grey woven sweater but seeing as how it’s summer, there wasn’t much out there. I did however go into Old Navy (I know, Old Navy?!), and found a perfect black and white striped top which I thought was very Kate Spade inspired. I paired my outfit with a heavy statement piece which was a beautiful silver necklace from my girl, Hijabi Mama (link below). I also wore my Gramercy Crystal watch from Kate Spade and some cute silver studs. Lastly, I threw on some white closed toe shoes and I was good to go!

DIY: Glitter Mason Jars

Hi friends!

Last weekend I decided to make a trip to Michaels and get started on some glitter mason jars (inspired by Pinterest of course). I’ve had this post under my “DIY” section on Pinterest foooreverrrr but never got to it until now! Below you will find a step by step process about how I decorated my mason jars and a vase. Lets get started!

You will need:

1 2 3 4 6photo 5

1. Mason Jars/Vase
2. Paint & Glitter Paint (I bought the Martha Stewart brand but feel free to buy another brand thats cheaper, they really are all the same)
3. Paint Brushes
4. Tape
5. A Shoe Box
6. Loose Glitter
7. Mod Podge

Step 1: Paint your mason jar/vase. For both my blush pink and gold mason jars, I had to use 3 coats.

Step 2. Once the jars dry completely, you can tape around your jar. Cut off however much you want for the glitter section. Tape allows you to have a completely straight line and it makes the division look neat! Next grab your Modge Podge and brush the part you would like to add your glitter on to.

Step 3. Throw in your glitter to a shoe box (so you don’t make a mess). Then, roll your mason jar or vase into the glitter and make sure it evenly coats.

Step 4. Let the Modge Podge/Glitter dry for about 10 minutes (or until completely dry) and then slowly peel off your tape! Use Modge Podge over the glitter to completely seal it in, this prevents the glitter from falling excessively.

Step 5.  I also used another mason jar and painted it a shimmery gold using Martha Stewart’s paint. Once it was completely dry, I used hot pink paint to make dots all over the jar. I used the tip of a brush to dip into the paint and make the dots.

… and thats it! The process was super easy and fast. The gold paint was not exactly what I was expecting but I had fun doing it anyway. Next time, I plan to use actual loose gold glitter and then paint hot pink dots all over the jar. I feel like that might fit more so to that ‘Kate Spade’ theme I was going for. Next time, I also plan to use one more coat of the blush pink paint. You can use these jars for ANYTHING, whether its make up brushes, fresh flowers or even pens and pencils.

I made a flower vase as well and stuck in some fresh pink tulips to welcome Spring (although I feel like we just received Winter once again!). This one was truly my favourite one, it’s the perfect touch to our home.

Try this DIY and let me know what you came up with!! Painting mason jars is actually pretty fun and relaxing!

Kate Spade Inspired Basket

Happy Sunday everyone!

Hope this blog finds you well!… even though tomorrow’s the start of a new week! =( I have really been meaning to make a post about this for the past 2 weeks but my 9-5 job just got a little crazier then usual!

On another note, I have an exciting new idea for a gift for any of your friends (or for yourself ;)) I have been living in a Kate Spade world forever now… I love her purses, wallets, watches, phone cases etc … and now Kate Spade has come out with STATIONARY! If you are a person who loves bright, girlie and colorful things – this could be super exciting for you! It was my friends birthday a few weeks ago and I decided to make a Kate Spade Inspired basket of goodness! All of the items were found at Indigo in Toronto, however they can also be found online or at the actual Kate Spade stores.

With that being said, I grabbed a basket, added some pink tissue and put the following items inside:

a) Some coasters – retailed at $20
b) Black Striped Thermal Mug – retailed at $18
c) Binder Clips (Set of 8) – retailed at $18
d) Eraser (Set of 4) – retailed at $12

I also added a gold My Agenda 2014-2015 Calendar! These can be found online at www.momagenda.com for $43 but on sale right now with 30% off! This agenda is THE best agenda ever!! I started using it 2 years ago and I can honestly say I use it everyday! It helps keep me organized and keep lists of things I need. The agenda comes in multiple colors and is perfect to throw into your purse wherever you go.

In addition, I also bought myself the black striped thermal mug as well as the “Glasses Pencil Pouch Set” which came with a few Kate Spade pencils inside! This was retailed at $28. I am going to use this pouch as my makeup bag whenever I just need to carry a few things!

I have to say I really love the Kate Spade collection that came out. It was a perfect gift for my friend, Pooja! She just got a new job AND it was her birthday, bright and colorful office supplies was the perfect gift for her. There are a lot of cool Kate Spade stuff at the actual Kate Spade store (which you can find at Yorkdale) OR at Indigo, retailed at pretty affordable prices! Check it out and let me know what you end up buying!
