Strobing is the new contouring?

Is it though?

Isn’t strobing just a technique we all use when we’re lazy in the mornings?

If you have been on social media for the past 2 weeks, you’ll know that strobing is all the rage right now. Strobing (aka highlighting) focuses exclusively on just highlighter and illuminators as oppose to contouring that helps you define and structure your face using darker shades. Strobing focuses exactly on where the light would hit your face – in this case, it can be the highest points of your cheekbones, your nose, your temples, your cupid’s bow and even your collar bones. Although this look makes one look more angelic, radiating and glowy, I still do prefer contouring (even with the summer heat, when I have time of course).

Regardless, I had to make a video to show my subscribers what strobing is and how you can achieve it. Please see above for the video and below for a product list of what I have used.

Product List:

– True Match Concealer and Illuminator
– Nars, Copacabana Illuminator
– NYX, Illuminator in Gleam
– Becca Highlighter in Opal
– Bobbi Brown, Illuminating Treatment Foundation
– Mac, Mineralize Skin Finish

How to: Contour, Highlight & Conceal | Kat Von D: Shade Light Palette

Hey hey heeyyy,

Since about last year, the hype of contouring has gone up a few million notches! Although the concept has been used for many years by professional makeup artists, many cosmetic brands have been making contour kits as apart of their branding technique. We started with Anastasia, then we had Makeup Forever (and many others in between) and now we have Kat Von D’s, Shade Light Palette.

Each contour kit has about 6 shades, some have 2-4. There are lighter shades to emphasis the highlighted areas and carve out your contour and there are darker shades to create the illusion of a slimmer face, cheekbones, and even creating abs or cleavage.

In today’s video, I’ve used the Shade Light Palette by Kat Von D to emphasize and carve out my features. For a list of the products, see below:

1. Bobbi Brown – Illuminating Treatment Foundation

2. Nars – Radiant Concealer in Vanilla

3. Kat Von D – The Shade Light Palette

4. Nars – Translucent Powder

5. Banana Powder

6. Nars – Albatross Highlighter

Remember to use a sponge or a beauty blender to blend everything together, if you do not have either, try a stippling brush and very lightly blend everything together in circular motions.

I hope this helped everyone who needs help with contouring!
Thanks for stopping by and please subscribe to my channel if you like what you see.

Get Ready With Me: Bollywood Inspired Look

Hi friends,

We are almost at the end of the week which is rather exciting because I have a lot of pictures to take for all the ideas that are running around in my head for my YouTube and Blog! A few weekends ago, we had a dawat and I knew I just had to film for you guys. The only issue with filming the day that you are actually supposed to be going somewhere is TIMING! I never can seem to schedule myself accordingly to be done filming and be early or on time for the dawat. Even if I give myself 2-3 hours, something goes wrong – here is a list of a few things that can happen while I’m filming: my battery dies and I have to recharge it, my memory stick runs out and I have to load the video clips on my computer and then start again, or the sun starts to set and I need to set up my lights.. sometimes there are problems after problems! Regardless, I love doing it however I find that sometimes the idea that I have in my mind doesn’t always come to life. For instance, in this video I wanted to film my whole outfit and show you guys what I wore but because the dawat was at night, we weren’t getting good lighting and the camera just wasn’t focusing on the outfit how I would have liked it to. Anyways, enough rambling on, I hope you guys had a chance to see the video, if not click above and check it out!

This video was a Bollywood Inspired Look where my eyes were gold with heavy eyeliner and my face was contoured to the T. I added more glamor to the look by using my Lilly G. lashes as well as wearing some show stopping jewelry! Below you will find a list of my products that I used within the video, feel free to leave your comments  aboout any questions you may have.

How to: Contour, Highlight and Conceal

Hi dolls!

The other day I posted a new video entitled: How to Contour, Highlight and Conceal. A lot of people tend to run away when they hear the words “contour” and “highlight”, but I promise you it’s not that bad. When using the right tools, techniques and methods, it’s as easy as 1, 2, 3! I started getting into contouring and highlight when Kim Kardashian first posted that picture of her makeup artist applying the highlighter and brown shadow to her face, I was literally like “wow!” I then started googling and youtubing various makeup artists and how they apply the contour and highlighting technique to their face. To this day, I still think that Kim Kardashian truly has the best contouring and highlighting than any other celebrity – definitely an inspiring photo to look at while practicing is this one:

Now, there are a lot of benefits to contouring as it can make a world of a difference. By contouring your temple, nose, cheekbones, jaw line, eye crease and even the inner corners of your eyes, you can make it look like you have lost 5-10 pounds easily! Contouring and highlighting also helps define your look, disguise double chins and adds shape to your face!

Concealing allows you to hide those dark circles under your eyes, hide pimples and any red spots that appear on your face. In addition, highlighting allows you to add brightness to your face! When highlighting, it reflects light on your face and gives you a brighter look. In addition, highlighting the middle of your nose will allow your face to appear much longer.

Of course contouring and highlighting is not as easy as it looks. Everyone has a different face shape and you have to find out what works for you! It takes a lot of practice, good precision and of course good lighting. If you have ever photographed yourself using the correct technique to contour and highlight, you will easily notice how much it change the structure on your face.

Anyway, I hope this video helps you guys with the basics of contouring and highlighting. This is kind of how I do it on an everyday basis. Of course, when I want my look to be more “dramatic”, I spend more time on contouring and highlighting and focus on my chin and temples in addition to my nose and cheekbones. For now, this is an easy and simple method that shows you how to contour your cheekbones and nose that helps you achieve that structured face!
